Qualification:
Requirements for the position is a bachelor degree in informatics, computer sciences, engineering or natural sciences and very good programming skills. Higher degrees are welcome but not necessary. Several years of experience in software development are required. Skills in modern programming languages such as JavaScript, Ruby, or Python, and experience with databases (SQL) are desired. Applicants should be fast in learning new programming languages and enthusiastic in the work on new tasks.
Work Description:
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) offers several positions for (web-)developers as well as data- and information science experts in Karlsruhe (Germany). As part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) for Chemistry (NFDI4Chem), scientific institutes as well as infrastructures will hire personnel to work on a FAIR research data management (RDM) infrastructure for the chemistry community in Germany and beyond.
You will work in a young team of service and software developers to develop software in the NFDI4Chem in close contact to scientists and the data center at KIT. The working group currently consists of different developers with a focus on cheminformatics and information science and will be extended to a larger group due to the exciting challenges of digitalization of scientific work. Current planned topics deal with the improvement and extension of our Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) and the repository for research data, the development of new information systems in a Smart Lab, and the implementation of data viewers. The development team is involved in several projects with national and international visibility (Chemotion ELN, Chemotion repository; https://github.com/ComPlat).
The aims and tasks of your work are:
- The development of software for the establishment and improvement of smart labs and repositories
- Code management using e.g. GitLab and GitHub
- Bug Fixing and the work on user requests concerning the designed software
- Documentation of the developments
